Local/Global Missions

We support the missiontrips of our members as well as financially fund other groups for many reasons. Our first reasons are from God, to be witnesses of Jesus, to serve according to his example, to extend God’s compassion to the needy, and to love others in His name.

Beth Walls met with the missionary group going to Indonesia this summer.
The group is sponsored by World Outreach of EPC. Save the date - March 9!

Beth writes:
"What is your Nineveh? Where is God asking you to go that you are saying "no"? Those were the words spoken by a Christian storyteller one beautiful spring night last year. I knew the answer because I had been adamantly saying NO WAY to the prospect of being part of a team planning a trip to Sumatra in the summer of 2012. When the congregation started singing one of my favorite hymns, I just stood there with tears in my eyes singing "Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?" knowing that God had finally found a way to get me to say "yes".

...We will leave on June 24 from Seattle and travel to Jakarta. From there we will go on to Bengkulu where the McElvey's currently live. We will be traveling literally halfway around the world, staying on the west side of the country along the Indian Ocean.

This trip is about long term involvement with bringing the gospel where it has never been. Learning about a lost or hidden people and why they remain unreached. While there, we will engage directly with the culture with others who can speak the language. We will go as learners full of curiosity to ask lots of questions. We will go to build real relationships to continue to pray for. We will enjoy the hospitality of Southeast Asian Malays. We will go to build the picture of the city for you at home that cannot go. Our role will be to use our imagination to pray for God's kingdom to come to the region; to consider how FPC can be more involved and aware.

...How can you be a part of this endeavor?
1) Prayer - please be in prayer for the 8 people on the team. These are folks representing the four churches that provide on-going support for the Presbytery of the West's Engage 2025 Ministry. Pray for the McElvey's and for the people we will meet. Pray for passports and visas and travel arrangements.
2) Financial Support - the cost per person is $2,200. If you have help defray any of that cost, please give it to the church earmarked for the Summer 2012 Sumatra trip.
3) Fundraising Support - we know that not everyone can help financially but we will be holding a number of fund raisers in the coming months and would appreciate any support you can provide.

Guatemala Missions - In the past, a group of medical staff, interpreters, and support personnel travel to Guatemala to present medical clinics in hard-to-reach areas in the mountain highlands of Guatemala. Team members pay for their own expenses, but the team must take medications and other medical supplies to provide for the hundreds of indigenous Guatemalas of Mayan descent. When patients need more medical treatment than the short-term clinics can provide, money for other treatment is needed. Marie Hart of FPC is a women's health nurse practitioner, and Elizabeth Holder of FPC travels with the team as an interpreter.
